In 2006, Grange Mutual Casualty Group, a $1-billion insurance and financial services provider, commissioned an expansion to their existing headquarters with the goal of adding much needed office space to their currently at-capacity headquarters. The expansion creates space for several hundred workers from Grange's satellite offices throughout the city and positions the company for its next phase of growth.
The state-of-the-art expansion is the first part of a multi-phase master plan which will transform Grange's current headquarters into a corporate campus within its historic Brewery District neighborhood. The 247,000 SF addition features 10,000 SF of green roofs, ground level retail and multipurpose meeting spaces that can also be used by the community.
The new building features 10,000 SF of green roofs (broken into three sections) that insulate, reduce heat gain and provide a pleasing aesthetic for those looking onto the building. Each green roof is accessible and includes deck space and seating for employees to further enjoy the area. Green space is also present on the site's new civic plaza, which was transformed from surface parking lot and undeveloped space into a multi-acre landscaped area that will host community events.
