Description
The current Hamburg Rathaus, or city hall, was built from 1886 to 1897. The original was destroyed in a fire in 1842. The rathaus was built at a time of prosperity for Prussia. A strike and a cholera outbreak slowed down its construction, however. It was designed by Martin Haller in the Neo-Renaissance style.
