"Located on the Colorado River between Clark county, Nevada and Mohave county, Arizona in the Black Canyon. Supervised by the Federal Bureau of Reclamation, it was constructed between 1930 and 1936 as Boulder Dam, and renamed in honor of president Herbert Hoover in 1947. The dam impounds Lake Mead and is used for flood and silt control, power, irrigation, and industrial and domestic water supplies."
