Description
This student project by Alexandra Ruiz & Carrie Moradi was produced Winter 2012 in ARCH 844 class. "The 2012 Baumer Studio investigated a very current and yet to be fully understood urban dynamic: the spatial consequences, challenges, and opportunities of the still-unfolding foreclosure crisis. In this context, we used the city of Columbus as our site, visualizing the spatial dynamics and phenomena of the crisis and developing new tools and techniques that progressively respond to these emerging conditions. In phase one, we discovered that hand-painted real estate signs are used to market foreclosed homes to potential buyers with bad credit or bankruptcies. We decided to explore how signage can be utilized to target various marginalized groups in an effort to promote diversity in Franklinton and Hilliard. We're proposing social change by reconfiguring a suburban home to accommodate two families of single moms and their children by providing shared spaces as well as varying levels of private spaces." --Alexandra Ruiz & Carrie Moradi
