The Library Almeida Garrett was constructed as a part of the renovation of the gardens and cultural program of Palacio de Cristal, located in the western part of Porto. In addition to a library, the building houses an exhibition gallery and an auditorium.
One unique feature of its design is a "semitransparent curtain in wooden half-logs that also functions as solar protection in the exhibition hall."
