Description
"The design of the Museum follows a campus model rather than proposing a singular monumental object. The plan groups the varied architectural elements beneath an enveloping and controlling grid framework. This volumetric framework is significant, as it allows the complex to read as a unified campus of interconnected facilities with distinguishable characters and functions. The 14 x 14 metre steel framework houses glazing, grillage over rooftop plant, metal louvres and shading and reflecting light into the public spaces, and solar panels. The resultant computer chip-like pattern of the roof plan suggests an image of advanced technology for the Museum, while the formal qualities of the grid refer to the existing formality of the site and the city." -- http://www.dcm-group.com/
