Description
The Mikimoto Ginza is a retail store owned and operated by a renowned pearl jewelry manufacturer and retailer K. Mikimoto & Company. The Mikimoto design features unique, irregularly shaped and placed windows on its outer walls. The facade is made of steel plate-reinforced concrete approximately 20 centimeters thick and serves as the support structure for the 50-meter-high nine story building. The integrated design allows no support columns within the interior space. The design has won a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement from the 8th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Bienniale.
