The Monument to Victor Emmanuel II is located on the Piazza Venezia. The central statue is Victor Emmanuel II on horseback. The monument is also known as Vittorio Emanuele II and Altare della Patria (Altar of the Nation). "It consists of a vast platform with a terrace supporting an equestrian statue of the king, backed by an enormous, slightly concave Corinthian colonnade, supporting an elaborately decorated attic, and terminated at each end by porticoed pavilions bearing great bronze scupltural groups.
