Description
Built as a memorial to Civil War dead, the stone-faced Monumental Building is a three-story Victorian Gothic building designed by Samuel Lane. It was built for many purposes: library, municipal and township offices, fire department, and, on the third floor, opera house. Around the turn of the century the opera house was closed. The building is now occupied by a municipal court at the upper level and Veterans Service offices at the lower levels.
