Description
The Museum was designed in the 1880s by Montgomery C. Meigs to house the Pension Bureau. The Great Hall is 316 feet by 116 feet, and 159 feet tall (approximately 15 stories) at its highest point. The Corinthian columns are among the tallest in the world at 75 feet high, 8 feet in diameter, 25 feet in circumference, each built of 70, 000 bricks. Created by an act of Congress in 1980, the National Building Museum is America's premier cultural institution dedicated to exploring and celebrating architecture, design, engineering, construction, and urban planning.
