Description
The New Synagogue of Dresden, designed by Wandel Hoefer Lorch + Hirsch, is a windowless cubic structure. Light enters through the roof and entrance area. "At the corners, each of the 34 courses of the block walls is offset to the one below by 6 cm, so that the building seems to twist upwards about its axis until the exact orientation is attained. The distorted cube is corbelled out (or set back) at the corners by 1.8 m." --New Synagogue in Dresden. (2002). Detail: Zeitschrift für Architektur & Baudetail & Einrichtung, 1+2, Detail p. 45.
