Description
Old Plovdiv is located in the Southern/Central part of Bulgaria and along two banks of river Maritza. It is declared as an architectural museum reserve with over 150 historical houses from the National Revival period. The magnificent houses are turned into museums, galleries, workshops, restaurants, and pubs. The houses have decorative wooden ceilings, polychromatically decorated walls with painted niches, windows with wooden shutters or iron nets and stylish European furniture. UNESCO awarded Plovdiv a gold medal for architecture in 1979. --See: http://www.plovdiv.org/home/intro.html
