Description
This monumental bronze statue of Otto von Guericke (1602-1686) was created by sculptor Carl Echtermeyer. The sculpture details recall the city before its destruction in 1631 as well as von Guericke's famous Magdeburg Hemispheres experiment (ca. 1656) involving teams of sixteen horses trying to pull apart two hemispheres joined by a vacuum process.
