Description
San Miguel Mission Church is "one of the oldest mission churches in the United States, was constructed in 1625 by the Tlaxcala Indians who came to New Mexico as servants of the Spanish soldiers and missionaries. The area surrounding the church had been part of an abandoned pueblo dating back to about 1100, portions of which were built into the chapel. The church was so severely damaged in the 1680 Pueblo Revolt that when it was rebuilt in 1710, new foundations had to be laid." -- http://www.nmculture.org/cgi-bin/instview.cgi?_recordnum=SM Submitted by Kay Bea Jones.
