Description
In front of the town hall is the St. Peter's church, also known as St. Pieterskerk Church. Both the town hall and the church buildings were constructed in Gothic style, although the church seems to be less elegant and flamboyant than the town hall. The new gothic church was built by the same architects who constructed the town hall, Sulpitius van Vorst. The church is well known with Dirk Bouts' 'The Last Supper' (painted between 1464 and 1468), a painting for the altar of the Holy Sacrament of the church. Keywords: Belgium, Flanders, Vlaams-Brabant, Louvain, Louven, ceremonial and/or religious structures, churches, cathedrals. Submitted by Hazel Morrow-Jones.
