Description
"The Temple of Athena Nike (goddess of victory) is a tetrastyle amphiprostyle small temple of marble, about 5.4m x 8.2m over the stylobate. The temple was designed by Kallikrates and is 11 feet tall from the stylobate to the apex of its pediment. "The relief frieze on the upper section of the walls depicts the conference of gods on the east side, and scenes from battles on the other three. A marble parapet decorated with the relief representation of Nikae (Victories), protected the edge of the Bastion on which the temple was erected." -- Hellenic Ministry of Culture website: http://www.culture.gr/2/21/211/21101a/e211aa01.html The Archivision Collection of Ancient Sites was funded by the Jack Martin Balcer Library Endowment.
