The IAAM is a private, nonprofit organization located in Charleston, SC. The IAAM is governed by a board of directors and administrated by a consulting director. Federal, state, county and city officials, and private persons comprise its board of directors. Congressman James E. Clyburn of South Carolina's 6th District, Majority Whip of the United States House of Representatives, is the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Beyond its museum walls, IAAM will help foster a legacy initiative to provide competitive funding to strengthen research, education, training, preservation, career development, collections, programming, public learning and dissemination of African American history and culture in South Carolina and internationally. - more info on IAAM Site
