Description
Vitra, a well-known furniture manufacturer, commissioned new buildings from several leading architects (Frank Gehry, Alvaro Siza, Nicholas Grimshaw, Tadao Ando and Zaha Hadid) for their company's site near Basel. The Vitra Design Museum houses temporary exhibitions of furniture and interior design. It is a collage of cubes, ramps and towers. Its expressive forms are determined by their function and lighting. The exhibition area totals some 700 square meters extends over two floors. Daylight enters the roof area through large windows.- - information from http://www.vitra.com/architecture/ This image was taken in 2001 by John P.
